Rowan and Gemma Book Giveaway by Mama Likes This

Mama Likes This’s Rowan and Gemma Book Giveaway offers one hardcover copy of Rowan and Gemma by Sally J. Pla. The Rowan and Gemma book is published by HarperCollins’ Quill Tree Books and has a stated approximate retail value of $19.99. 📖

The middle grade novel follows two neurodivergent tweens whose friendship develops against the backdrop of a feud between their families. Rowan Monahan has always lived in Friendship Prairie. He knows the town and its residents, but some people underestimate his abilities because he is a slow learner.

Gemma Caplan is new to the town. She is nonverbal and uses an augmentative and alternative communication device to speak. After moving from the city, she worries about whether she will fit into her new community.

Rowan and Gemma form a close bond, but their mothers become opponents in an increasingly hostile school board campaign. The children keep their friendship secret because of their families’ conflict. When their connection is discovered and they are punished, they decide to challenge the division around them.

Written by Schneider Award-winning author Sally J. Pla, the novel explores friendship, growing up, school life, empathy, and self-discovery. The publisher’s suggested readership begins at age ten. The giveaway prize is a single copy of the book.
