Country & Town House’s competition offers Saicho’s Minami Sayaka Sparkling Tea, with one bottle worth £50 presented in the collection’s signature gift box. 🍵 The tea is part of Saicho’s Rare Tea Collection and is produced in limited quantities from a single family garden in Kyushu, Japan.
The tea comes from Gokase, in the mountains of northern Miyazaki. The Miyazaki family tends more than 140 small plots above 600 metres, where morning mist, winter snow and volcanic soils slow growth and concentrate flavour.
Minami Sayaka is usually made as a green tea. Tea master Akira Miyazaki spent four years developing a light oxidation process to reveal the leaf’s floral character, creating a rare Japanese oolong. Its tasting notes move from gardenia and magnolia to white peach and nashi pear, followed by marzipan and a finish of almond blossom.
The bottle’s signature box features artwork by Saicho’s Artist in Residence, Yuliya Kalinichenko. The illustration depicts the Kumataka, a protected mountain hawk-eagle found above the tea fields.
The supplied serving suggestions pair the sparkling tea, served chilled, with oysters, scallops or langoustines. The prize includes both the bottle and its illustrated presentation box.
