UK Competitions: Free Entry Routes and Prize-Draw Rules
Showing 1–12 of 138 matching contests.
UK competitions and prize draws can use different entry and winner-selection methods. Read the terms before paying, posting an entry or answering a question. Check whether the eligible area is the whole United Kingdom or a narrower territory; a familiar British brand is not proof that every address qualifies.

Find the Free Route and Understand the Draw
The Gambling Commission’s explanation of free draws and prize competitions distinguishes free draws from competitions decided by skill, judgement or knowledge. For a draw with paid and free routes, the free route must meet the stated requirements, and prize selection must not distinguish between the routes. Normal-rate postage can qualify as free entry; that does not mean a postal entry costs you nothing.
The Commission does not approve these promotions. Its guidance concerns the Gambling Act framework in Great Britain; do not assume it settles every Northern Ireland question. Check residence restrictions and the organiser’s specific entry instructions.
Read the Conditions Before Committing
ASA/CAP guidance on significant promotion conditions covers entry methods, closing dates, purchase requirements and age or geographic restrictions. These should not be hidden until after entry. Save the advertised conditions with the full rules so you can identify a later discrepancy.
Before You Enter
- Check UK versus Great Britain wording and any express exclusions.
- For postal entry, confirm the address, required details and arrival deadline.
- Check limits per person or household across all entry routes.
- Read what travel, delivery or collection expenses the winner must cover.
Questions About Entering From United Kingdom (UK)
Does a free postal route mean postage is reimbursed?
No such promise follows from the word free. The Commission’s guidance allows normal-rate postal communication; check whether the organiser separately offers reimbursement.
Are paid entries given a better chance than free entries?
For a compliant free draw with both routes, the Commission says prize selection should not distinguish the routes. This does not promise you a particular chance of winning.
Does a simple question prove a promotion is a skill competition?
No. The Commission explains that multiple-choice questions or second chances rarely satisfy its skill threshold. Read how the winner is actually selected.
Is a Gambling Commission logo proof that this draw is approved?
The Commission says it does not approve free draws or prize competitions. Verify any claim of official approval independently.
Can I enter from Northern Ireland or a Crown Dependency?
Check the exact eligible territory. Do not infer inclusion from a UK-themed advertisement, a delivery service or a form accepting your postcode.
If you compare Ireland competitions, check that the rules explicitly include your residence. A promotion covering the Republic of Ireland does not automatically cover UK residents.
Contest Reminder helps you discover and track third-party promotions; it does not run them or decide who qualifies. The organiser’s official rules control. Save the rules and entry confirmation, and verify unexpected winner messages through the organiser’s established contact details.
